Maasai Mara: Economic Goldmine for Narok County

Tourism revenues:
In the first nine months of the 2023/24 fiscal year, Maasai Mara generated a staggering KSh 3.6 billion, accounting for roughly 91% of Narok’s own-source revenue (~KSh 3.96 billion) during that period Mara Conservancy+3Nation Africa+3Kenya News+3Nation Africa.
In fiscal 2022–23, the county projected total earnings of about KSh 3 billion from the reserve .
Revenue-sharing framework:
The Mara Conservancy, under a 10-year agreement with Narok County, manages reserve operations (including tourism and infrastructure). Revenue division goes: 55% to Narok County, 36% to Mara Conservancy, and 7.5% to revenue-collection agents Kenya NewsMara Conservancy.
Entry fees for residents:
Narok locals enjoy discounted fees—KSh 1,000 (off-peak) and KSh 2,000 (high season) for adults—significantly less than the standard KSh 1,500–3,000 charged to other Kenyan citizens
